The Emerald Difference

The Emerald Difference

Joe Dickman | February 8th, 2026

The Emerald Difference is why customers choose Emerald. When temperature control, efficiency, and reliability matter Emerald is always the best choice. We don’t build refrigerated solutions around “good enough”. We build them around performance, durability, and real-world operating costs. That means investing in internationally recognized standards, aerodynamic upgrades that reduce waste, and build options that match how your business truly runs. If you want refrigerated transportation that protects product, reduces friction, and scales with you, Emerald is the only choice.

What Sets Emerald Apart

ATP Certification

ATP certification sets a higher bar for refrigerated transportation, and Emerald proudly meets that standard. Our refrigerated trucks comply with the technical requirements of the Agreement on the International Carriage of Perishable Foodstuffs (ATP), a benchmark widely recognized for cross-country refrigerated delivery across Europe. While ATP certification is not required in the United States (and many providers never meet these higher expectations), Emerald chooses to operate above the minimum to deliver more consistent temperature control and stronger peace of mind. Learn more about Emerald’s ATP Certification.

VEA Wind Deflector

Emerald always uses the highest-quality parts. This extends to our VEA Wind Deflector, a technology from VEAP Shield United. This aerodynamic upgrade helps smooth airflow across key pressure points around the tractor and refrigerated body, reducing resistance at cruising speeds. Less resistance means the truck doesn’t work as hard, which can translate into lower fuel usage, fewer emissions, and greater profits over time, especially on long hauls. Nationwide and International Delivery

Emerald is built to serve fleets beyond a single region. We offer refrigerated trucks and vans designed for real distribution needs. Whether you’re running local routes, covering multi-state territories, or scaling into new markets Emerald can serve you. Whether those needs are in the United States, Canada, Mexico or the Caribbean, Emerald can help you. Contact us to see if we can deliver to you.

Custom Order Availability

Every business has a different route structure, product mix, and loading workflow. This is why Emerald makes customization part of the process, not an afterthought. We build solutions to match how you deliver, including layout and access options that support efficiency on multi-stop routes and specialized distribution. Emerald also develops and installs insulation and refrigeration systems on select builds, giving tighter control over cold performance and build quality from the inside out. If you need something specific, Emerald is structured to build it – cleanly and correctly. Contact us to start your custom order.

What does under DOT mean?

Questions regarding DOT requirements come up often. 10,000 lbs GVW (gross vehicle weight) and over are commercial vehicles that fall under the Department of Transportation regulatory requirements.

What is the difference between GVW and payload?

GVW or Gross Vehicle Weight is the entire weight of the vehicle including the payload. The payload weight represents the amount of cargo you are hauling.

What is a self-powered unit and a vehicle-powered unit?

A self-powered unit has its own fuel source and will run independent of the truck. This is the heaviest and most expensive option. While vehicle-powered units run off the engine via a compressor mounted on the engine. These are less expensive and lighter in weight but you must run the truck or plug the electric standby into shore power.

What does K-factor mean and why is that important?

K-factor is a term that stands for the overall insulating value of the container (truck body). Quite simply the lower the K-factor the better the truck body will be able to maintain a given temperature and require less energy to do so.

How much lighter is a Poly Van vs a US spec body?

Poly Van bodies are very light. On average we estimate we are 75-150 lbs per foot lighter than a traditional sheet and post foamed in place body. These weight savings translates to less fuel burn and less CO2 emissions, along with added payload, the most important benefit.
